<  FRANCA'S STORY

Dear Readers,

Many people, especially here in the States, do not know of the tremendous "history" of the Second World War in Italy.  I experienced the prelude to war and the war years in my youth.  Italians did not want to go to war; they had no choice in the matter.  I believe it is the responsibility of those of us who remember to share our stories so that others can learn from them, and perhaps not make the same mistakes.

When I told Diane Kinman some of my memories, she asked if she could base a book on my story. I agreed and our odyssey began. Many tears have been shed, many hours of research have been spent, many evenings reliving the experiences have been shared. I hope you will have a better understanding of the great price all of us pay in a war.
